Alix and District 8

Vision and Values

San Francisco's wonderful character derives largely from its unique mix of people of all backgrounds, lifestyles, outlooks, and incomes. From Diamond Heights to the Castro, Noe Valley to the Mission, District 8 is quintessentially San Francisco.

A housing market that shows the middle class the door; a transportation system in crisis; missed opportunities to improve the environment while saving people money, and violence prevention policies that consistently fail to protect our most vulnerable; city government is out of step with San Francisco's values.

I believe San Francisco should — and can — be more livable. I envision a San Francisco where you can own or rent a place you're proud to call home; travel within the city quickly and pleasantly; and at the end of the day, return to a vibrant and safe community where you know your neighbors.

I welcome your feedback on the position statements contained in the sections below. If you have any questions or comments, please email us at info@votealix.com.

Alix's Picks for November

Vote Yes on E! - Parking Tax Ordinance

Prop E is an important first step in improving our environment by reducing unnecessary car trips and encouraging the use of public transit and alternative methods of transportation.

As Supervisor, I will fight to assure that these new funds will be used to:

  • Reverse MUNI's service cuts
  • Complete the Citywide Bike Lane Network
  • Fund pedestrian improvement projects including ADA curb ramps.

Yes on Proposition F! - Paid Sick Days

Join me in supporting Proposition F!  It is an important step in securing the health and well being of all San Franciscans – and it is long overdue.

Almost half of full-time, private sector workers do not have any paid sick leave and almost 15% of working San Franciscans cannot take a sick day.  Without paid sick days, workers can spread illness to their co-workers and customers and are unable to care for ailing loved ones.

Proposition F will assure that workers will have the time available to obtain preventive or corrective medical care or attend to a sick family member without jeopardizing their income or livelihood.

As a former service worker, I firmly believe that everyone deserves paid sick days.

Yes on Prop G! - Small Business Protection

District 8 has some of the most vibrant commercial districts in San Francisco, including Upper Market/ Castro, Valencia, and Noe Valley/24th Street.  District 8 needs Prop G to maintain our neighborhood character and protect our small mom-and-pop shops and restaurants from the predatory anti-competitive practices of mega-stores and formula retail.

Vote Yes on H! - Tenant Relocation Assistance

Prop H will give honest, hard-working San Franciscans – those evicted through no fault of their own– assistance they need to find a new home.

According to AIDS Housing Alliance/SF, 25% of evictions of the elderly, disabled and catastrophically ill occur in District 8.  Prop H could decrease Ellis Act evictions of protected class tenants and will help those evicted to relocate.
